A lot of bosses let you brute-force your way through if your build is rolling, but this one doesn't. Even if you've got decent gear and a healthy pile of PoE 2 Currency behind your character, you'll still get punished if you miss what the fight is asking from you. That's why so many players hit a wall here. Torvian himself isn't just a damage sponge. He's a lesson in reading the arena, spotting the real threat, and not panicking when the screen starts getting messy.
What Actually Makes Torvian Dangerous
On paper, Torvian looks straightforward. He rushes in, chops hard with both axes, leaps on top of you, and mixes physical hits with fire damage that can turn a small mistake into a quick death. If you try to play too far away, he still keeps pressure on you, so there isn't some easy safe zone where ranged builds get a free pass. But the part that catches most people isn't his own attack pattern. It's the three Twilight Order priests posted around the arena. They keep feeding him buffs, and those buffs matter a lot. More damage, more staying power, more frustration. Leave them alone and the fight drags into a disaster. You can feel it pretty fast: your hits aren't doing enough, his pressure keeps building, and suddenly the whole thing feels unwinnable.
The Boulder Trick You Need to Learn
The fight opens up once you understand the gimmick. You can't climb up and kill the priests directly, so don't waste time trying to force it. What you need to do is bait Torvian into helping you. After certain attacks, he'll throw a huge boulder across the arena. That's your moment. Stand so the line between Torvian and your character points toward one of the priest platforms, then move at the last second. If you've positioned it right, the boulder slams into the structure and takes that priest out of the fight. Then you do it again for the second platform, then the third. It's simple when written down, but in the actual fight it can feel awkward for a while. A lot of players dodge too early, or they panic and lose the angle. Once it clicks, though, the whole encounter starts to make sense.
Arena Pressure and Common Mistakes
What makes that boulder setup rough is everything else happening around it. Torvian doesn't just wait for you to solve the puzzle. He keeps swinging, keeps leaping, and the arena starts filling with extra pressure. Walls can block your route and wreck your positioning. Slow-moving hazards chew up open space and make clean movement harder than it should be. That's why greed gets people killed here. That's the part many players end up liking, even if they were annoyed at first. The encounter asks you to pay attention, adapt, and actually use the room instead of face-tanking through it.
