Depending on power requirements, manufacturers can choose compact packages for space-constrained electronics or larger packages capable of handling greater current and thermal loads. Devices such as BT136-series TRIACs demonstrate how four-quadrant components can combine sensitive-gate operation with bidirectional switching and phase-control capabilities.

Despite the growth opportunities, the industry faces several challenges. Thermal management remains important because TRIACs can generate heat during operation, particularly when switching substantial loads. Engineers must consider on-state voltage, current rating, surge capability, heat dissipation, and operating temperature when selecting a component. Electromagnetic interference, unwanted triggering, commutation behavior, and compatibility with inductive loads can also affect circuit performance. Consequently, proper circuit design and component selection remain essential for achieving dependable operation.
