U4N Rune Strategy for D4: Build Better Endgame Crafting Habits
When endgame progression starts becoming more demanding, runes deserve almost as much attention as equipment. Players often spend their time comparing D4 items while overlooking the resources needed to finish their build. A steady rune supply can make a major difference when you are chasing Runewords or preparing to craft a specific Mythic Unique.
The same is true when organizing D4 items in your stash. A character can have excellent gear and still be several steps away from a finished build because the required Legendary Runes are missing. Instead of treating every rune as another random drop, it helps to decide which Mythic or Runeword matters most and build your farming routine around that target. U4N may be useful when researching broader item progression, but the actual rune system rewards careful planning.
Start With a Clear Crafting Goal
Before farming, decide what you are actually trying to build. There is little benefit in rerolling every unwanted Legendary Rune if one of those copies could eventually become part of your Mythic crafting requirement.
For example, Harlequin Crest requires six EOM runes, while Tyrael's Might requires six LITH runes. Ring of Starless Skies needs six BAC runes, and Shroud of False Death requires six MON runes.
Knowing this in advance changes the way you manage your inventory. A rune that looks useless today may become one of the most important items in your stash after your build changes.
Use Kurast Undercity Efficiently
Kurast Undercity remains the most targeted option for rune farming. The Tribute of Harmony is especially valuable because it guarantees multiple rune drops from the final boss.
Higher Torment levels can improve the rewards, so players who can handle stronger content efficiently should take advantage of that scaling. However, difficulty should not come at the cost of speed. A slightly lower tier that you can clear quickly may be more practical than a difficult run that takes significantly longer.
Focus on beacons and elite packs, and avoid wasting time on isolated standard enemies. Reaching Attunement Tier 4 should remain one of the main objectives of the run.
Keep Farming Materials Between Runs
Tributes are not unlimited, so your rune strategy should include ways to replenish them. The Pit and Tree of Whispers are useful choices when you need more opportunities to continue your Undercity rotation.
Tree of Whispers is particularly convenient because Whisper Caches guarantee at least one random rune. You can earn Grim Favors through fast activities and turn them in regularly rather than waiting until you have accumulated a large backlog.
World Bosses, Legion Events, Seething Abominations, and fast dungeons can all fit into this approach.
Do Not Ignore Helltides
Helltides are useful when you need a break from dungeon farming or want to collect several resources simultaneously. Concentrate on elite groups and Tortured Gifts rather than clearing every enemy you see.
The additional elite encounters triggered by some chests can provide valuable loot opportunities. While Helltides should not necessarily replace Undercity for dedicated rune farming, they work well as part of a broader rotation.
Know When to Reroll
The Jeweler gives you several ways to turn unwanted runes into something more useful. Three identical Magic or Rare runes can be upgraded into the next rarity, while three Legendary Runes can be rerolled into a random Legendary Rune.
The reroll option is tempting when your inventory contains duplicates, but it should be used carefully. Always compare your current rune collection with your planned Mythic recipe first.
A common mistake is to see three Legendary duplicates and immediately reroll them, only to realize later that the same rune was needed for a Mythic craft.
Trading Can Save Farming Time
Runes are tradeable, which gives players another way to complete a crafting target. If you receive a valuable Legendary Rune that does not matter to your build, keeping it forever may not be the best use of your inventory.
Trading an excess rune for one that directly supports your planned Mythic can shorten the grind considerably. This is especially helpful when random drops keep giving you the wrong type.
Think Beyond One Character
Even if your current character does not need a particular rune, it can still be worth keeping valuable copies. Build changes and future characters can create new demand for resources that currently seem irrelevant.
This is another reason not to reroll everything automatically. If you are also trying to build a collection of Diablo IV Items for sale, keeping useful runes organized can make it easier to separate resources intended for personal progression from anything you plan to trade.
Final Farming Priorities
A practical routine is simple: use Kurast Undercity when you have strong Tributes, farm Tree of Whispers and other activities when you need more, and use Helltides when you want mixed rewards. Keep track of the six Legendary Runes required for your chosen Mythic and avoid gambling them away without checking first.
The most efficient players are not necessarily the ones who kill the fastest. They are the ones who waste the fewest resources. By combining targeted rune farming with careful crafting decisions, you can turn unwanted drops into useful upgrades and steadily move toward your final build.
